‘Just like many other countries around us, Malaysia too is struggling against epidemic. With only four cases of HIV positive at the initial stage in 1986 and in June 2006, it had been estimed that 73,427 Malaysian had been infected with the virus causing 8,766 deaths.
However, it is sad that despite the statistics which is indeed disturbing: the Malaysian public at large is still silent pertaining to HIV/AIDS. This issues is viewed as a personal matter, causing those infected having to struggle on their own. Many who are just observing from a far and only spoke about it whenever they are required to do so. According to statistics, almost 80% of those infected with HIV are the younger group, whose age level is the most productive.

The Government realized that efforts in handling HIV/AIDS had to be carried out seriously apart from the challenges that had to be dealt with in carrying out these eforts. In relation to this, the Government is very much commited in carrying out a continuouse effort towards controlling this infection and to ensure that the struggle to challenge HIV/AIDS will continuously be given priority. These efforts would not be consuccessful if it is only left to the Government and to the Non-Government Organization (NGO). A concerted and united effort from all quarters are needed, includings all Malaysia citizens.’
