Israeli shelling on central Gaza kills Palestinian boy

A 5-year-old Palestinian child was killed and two injured on Sunday in an Israeli artillery shelling on central Gaza Strip, medics and witnesses said.

The witnesses said an Israeli army tank stationed east of al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza Strip fired one shell, which hit a house in the refugee camp, killed one child and wounded two other civilians.

Medics at al-Alqsa Hospital in the central Gaza Strip town of Deir el-Ballah said that Abdullah Bahar, five years old, was killed and two other civilians wounded by the Israeli tank's shell.

The witnesses said the Israeli artillery shelling at al-Bureij came shortly after Palestinian militants shot mortar shells at an Israeli army force stationed near the borders between Israel and central Gaza Strip.

Saraya al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad (Holy War) movement, claimed responsibility in a leaflet sent to reporters for launching two mortar shells at an Israeli army force east of the refugee camp.

"Our group claims responsibility for this blessed holy operation and reiterates that this attack is coming as part of the response to the Israeli arrests against our heroes in the West Bank," said the leaflet.
